Well I think the launch was a success! I had a few hundred people visit the site, which was really exciting, and met some new people I’d never even met that enjoyed my music and my writing.
This week’s tune: “He Reads”
[UPDATE: Devin would like the new title to be: “He reads…but at least he’s not illiterate! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “. Thank you.]
My boyfriend has a bit of an obsessive personality when it comes to TV and novels. The last couple weeks he’s been marathon-reading the third book in the “All Souls” trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Witches, vampires, moody main characters, etc.
I’m sure it’s a great book, and if I started reading it I’d be addicted too, but most of our relationship since then has been:
[SAM comes home from work. (I serve tables, so I usually get home around 9 or 10) DEVIN reads his book on the couch. DEVIN looks up with a fevered look in his eyes.]
DEVIN: Hey! One second. (DEVIN keeps reading.)
SAM: Ok. (One second) One second! Ha! I’m ready for your attention!
DEVIN: (keeps reading for a moment, finally looks up from his book) Ok. What’s up? How was your day?
SAM: It was great!
DEVIN: Perfect! Love you! (DEVIN dives back into the book.)
SAM: Well I guess I’ll play Diablo 3 for the next two hours while you read, is that cool?
DEVIN: Uh huh.
SAM: And adopt a kid.
SAM: And start a new religion with your mom. She’ll be the queen and I shall be her jester.
SAM: Alright then. Love you sweetie.
DEVIN: Uh huh. Yes, love to you too. (and then he’s gone.)
But (yay!) he finished reading the book last Sunday! Sebastian (our dog) and I breathed a sigh of relief as the current binge came to an end.
But then, not half an hour later, Devin was reading again.
SAM: Um, Dev, are you reading the same book again?
DEVIN: No no no!
SAM: Oh good! Because I thought–
DEVIN: I’m reading the trilogy again.
SAM: Oh. That’s a relief.
DEVIN: I know I’m so excited! Goodbye! I love you!
SAM: If you need me I’ll be spitballing scripture ideas with your mom.
DEVIN: Sounds great.
So I wrote this song while he reads. I have an electric piano that I record with. It’s in the living room where he does most of his books, so I just put my headphones on, work through the music, and we spend our time together like this, for awhile. I love my boyfriend.
Thanks for tuning in again, everyone! As always, spread the word to anyone you think would like this music. Yoga instructors, stay at home Mom’s, sensitive straight guys, anyone! And leave a comment below with your own strange addictions!
See you next Tuesday,
